What kinds of poses work best when photographing a group?

When taking a family portrait, there really is no single “perfect” pose. But here are some suggestions. Try to make sure that each person is comfortable and looks as natural as possible, and always turn the subjects slightly away from camera. “Straight on” is never as flattering. Try not to line family members into two equal height and size rows. Your photo will look more like an elementary class shot than a warm group. Staggering the family with some symmetry will create a more interesting photo.
