Business portraits don't have to be boring!

A photograph of an attorney is...well, a photograph of an attorney. Right? Not exactly. There's a real difference between a photograph and a portrait, especially when it comes to those featured on legal websites. Law firms are changing their approach to attorney photos. These days they want their talent to appear more approachable and not so "stiff." What used to be considered the "standard headshot" has been replaced by a more interesting "environmental portrait" that gives prospective clients a glimpse of the attorney at work.

Last year, Gittings was hired by the firm Carlton Fields to photograph the attorneys in their offices in Atlanta and throughout Florida. Since then, the firm has hired several new attorneys and recently requested that we return to most of the cities to photograph them as well as a few lawyers who weren't available during the original shoot. The result? Updated portraits for their website that convey the firm's diversity and unique style.

Gittings consulted with Carlton Fields to come up with a distinctive look that would be consistent throughout all of their offices and also capture the personality of each attorney . The differing backgrounds and skylines give these portraits energy and texture and makes each portrait slightly different while maintaining consistency. The shallow depth of field blurs the background and makes the attorney the centerpiece of the portrait.  Notice how the pose, stance and wardrobe work together to communicate a sense of each attorney's personal style. A project like this one proves that business portraits don't have to be boring!
